Our visit to Restaurant Gimmi ranks among the three worst restaurant experiences we have ever had. The evening got off to a disappointing start before we had even entered the restaurant. The hotel receptionist stopped us to verify that we actually had a reservation, only to tell us that we did not have a booking at 7:30 p.m., but at 8:00 p.m. This was despite us showing the confirmation email clearly stating that our reservation was for 7:30 p.m. When the restaurant itself checked our reservation upon our arrival, they also confirmed that our booking was indeed for 7:30 p.m. Unfortunately, this was only the beginning of what became an increasingly disappointing evening. We were never offered a wine list. Despite me explicitly informing the staff that I have a shellfish allergy, I was served lobster. My husband was encouraged to purchase a wine pairing even though we had never been given a wine list, and despite him clearly explaining that he was driving and therefore would not be drinking alcohol. After we declined the wine pairing, we never saw the sommelier again. No one cleared our wine glasses or asked whether we would like anything else to drink. Most disappointing of all, however, was the consistently poor quality of the food and its preparation. The brioche bread was dry and uninspiring, tasting as though leftover breakfast bread had simply been put into a toaster. The fish was served with soft, limp skin instead of the crisp, golden skin one would expect. The quality of the foie gras was disappointing, and several of the flavour combinations felt odd and poorly balanced. No one asked how I wanted my steak cooked, and it arrived with wilted, lifeless cabbage that lacked both texture and flavour. After both the aperitif course and the secondi course had been so disappointing that I left most of both dishes uneaten , I asked for the bill. Instead of bringing it, the staff returned to ask whether we would like to see the dessert menu, even though I had specifically requested the bill. They then returned once again to offer us snacks, forcing me to ask for the bill for a third time. At this point, I had barely eaten any of the food that had been served and had already asked for the bill three times. One would think that this clearly communicated that we wished to end our evening, but apparently not. Eventually, the bill arrived, but we were then left waiting without any opportunity to actually pay it. I even had to ask another waiter if we could please settle the bill. By this stage, I had attempted to pay four separate times simply so that we could leave what had become an incredibly disappointing experience. From beginning to end, the entire experience fell far below expectations. Without question, it was the worst Michelin mentioning dining experience we have ever had, not only because of the food, but equally because of the level of service. UPDATE: I had sent my critique to the restaurant by email several days before I posted a review to give them a chance to adress it. They never did, even after replying to this review. Taking no responsibility for the night, not even the fact that they served shellfish to someone with clearly stated shellfish allergy when they were the ONLY dinner party in the restaurant at the time kind of sums up everything you need to know about this place.

Dear Madam, your sharply critical review truly surprises us! We are sorry that you found so many issues in a single dinner: our restaurant regularly receives excellent reviews highlighting the quality of the food and the care we devote to our service. While we do not presume that our cuisine must appeal to every palate, we are confident in the professionalism of both our kitchen brigade and our dining room staff, who are always very attentive to guests and their requests. We are sincerely sorry that your experience did not reflect the standard we strive to offer our guests every day. Although we do not share your observations, we respect your right to express your opinion and wish you all the best.

Wow. Absolutely delicious mix of dishes with the 6-course tasting menu paired with excellent wine and even better service. The meal was finished with a wonderful walk in the center garden peering at ancient al frescos. This spot is definitely in contention to be elevated further on the Michelin guide. Would eat here again and again and again

We loved the monastery and interior. When we arrived we were shown two tables close to the speakers or close to the kitchen. We weren't happy with that and when I asked to move it could be done but the waiter didn't suggest it after I complained about the noise/ place where we had to sit. The manager solved the issue. The food was good but they could provide us with less bread courses. Bread at the start, in between and at the end is over the top and just a filler. Highlights were the red mullet amuse, the cuttlefish linguini and the aubergine dessert. The wines were nice but the portions of the wine a bit stingy. Nice gesture of the chef to come and chat to us after the meal.

Set within a historical monastery, this restaurant boasts a dramatic arrival experience. Alessandro, the restaurant manager adds an important human touch in an otherwise ascetic setting. Our four course tasting menu was peppered with many delightful complimentary bites, which lasted past 2 hours. Every course was very good except for our main course which was a fish. There were fine bones in the fillet and we were a little disappointed in that it was not fresh and neither was it delicious. The desserts were a colorful feast which helped to end our dinner in a positive mood.

When you walk in you are greeted and escorted through an amazing place. Then you step into an interesting looking room, it could look much better but it’s sort of randomly decorated taking away the allure of an old building. The furniture also isn’t super sturdy or impressive. The food overall was solid, don’t get me wrong, but it didn’t blow us away and the other pictures I saw on these reviews looked much nicer than what we were given, especially the dessert. The highlight was the mushroom pasta dish, and the letdown was the octopus truffle dish which was extremely overcooked and truffle was overshadowed by other flavors. The dessert was also a bit of a letdown, wasn’t very tasty. The staff was accommodating and nice enough, the vibe was overall a bit stiff and there wasn’t really anyone else eating there probably because it was a slower time of the season. Either way I probably wouldn’t come back based on that performance but I wouldn’t tell people not to go. You’d probably have a better time when it’s busier and another time of year

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback with us. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience didn’t fully meet your expectations. The atmosphere and décor of the Gimmi are intentionally designed to contrast with the historic elegance of the Chiostro, creating a different yet still refined environment — though we understand this may not align with everyone’s taste. We appreciate your comments about the dishes as well; we’re glad you enjoyed the mushroom pasta, and we’re sorry that other courses didn’t stand out in the same way. Your observations about the octopus and dessert are very valuable, and we will review them with our kitchen team. Our staff will be pleased to hear your kind words, and we hope that, should you decide to visit again during a livelier season, we’ll have the chance to offer you an experience that better reflects the level of quality we aim for. Thank you again for helping us improve.
