Foods pretty decent. Oddly there was only one other table of patrons during peak season. LLP

I was lucky enough to spend a week in Sicily for a conference. The food was excellent everywhere, but the best meal my husband and I had was at Teatro44. We were hoping to find a quieter spot off the main thoroughfare in Taormina. The location was lovely, but the food was truly exceptional. Every bite from the focaccia in the bread basket to the meatball main dish delivered a "wow" moment. Absolutely delicious. Even the aperol spritz was just better than average. Less sweet, more complex. Perfect to linger over.
The menu showed promise but was very pricey which raised our expectations. The service was friendly but extremely slow. The King Prawns at an extortionate €38 missed the ‘s’ at the end, as it was in fact one single prawn priced like a fancy lobster. It was tasty but took so long to arrive that we barely noticed the flavour due to hunger. Similarly the long awaited Wagyu beef was some paper thin slithers of beef on top of a huge amount of brioche at €35. Another incredibly long wait later and some cold pasta turned up which was underwhelming. It felt like they tried too hard and just couldn’t deliver. Neither on time nor on quality. The waitress was nice but we think she was also cooking the food which may explain some of the problems. It wasn’t even that busy so no idea how it took so long but at €100 per head I expect food to be warm, on time and delicious. I am giving it a generous extra star as some of the food was tasty. But the price was so outrageous that they simply have to deliver better. We ended up not eating much of the pasta as it was cold and due the the overall letdown of the evening we challenged the price in a polite manner. The staff reacted by threatening to call the police on us which ended the night on a new low.
Amazing food and very attentive service, would definitely come back. My husband and I are vegan and we had the best pasta ragout ever. We can highly recommend this place.
The food was exceptional but it was very quiet. Go here with a big group and enjoy wonderful ‘hidden gem’ food. It was too quiet for our first night in Taormina but we appreciated the food quality. We ate too much!!
After getting a bit tired of mediocre Italian tourist trap restaurants in town, we were glad to have found this place. Our expectation for food has been low in Taormina given how it’s a tourist central (as proven in many other places here), but this place had exceeded and met our usual taste. The amuse bouche, appetizer Wagyu, Gnocchi, mackerel dish were great. But the tagliatelle al ragu was a bit uneven in temp. Two people were running the restaurant, taking turns cooking and serving so it was a little slow but we were okay with that. Overall we were very satisfied and happy to have found this place!
