We were traveling from Geneva to Monterosso. This place was halfway between so we stopped for lunch. It was the only place in town open at 2:30 PM! Everybody was so friendly and so tolerant of our pathetic Italian language skills. The food was delicious… Everything from the carbonara to the poke to the hamburgers and gelato and cappuccino. It felt like being amongst family and friends the whole time.

I have travelled extensively over more than 40 years, dining in restaurants ranging from small family-run places to Michelin three-star establishments. This is my honest review of the restaurant Pasqua in Santhia, Piemonte, Italy. A very pleasant, no-frills restaurant we discovered on the way back from Milan to Geneva, located in a quiet village near the motorway junction toward Mont Blanc and the Great St. Bernard. The place feels very local and family-run, with a warm and relaxed atmosphere. We started with a trio of fish tartares, all of them excellent, fresh, and full of flavor. For mains, we had pasta with shrimp and tomatoes, perfectly executed with a rich sauce and nicely al dente pasta. We also tried a pizza with a thicker, bread-like dough, topped with mortadella, stracciatella, and pistachios, a generous and very tasty combination, served in a cast-iron dish. With the coffee, we were offered small biscuits, as there is also a pastry shop next door. Definitely worth saving some room if you have a sweet tooth. The service was friendly and efficient, with some staff speaking English, which made things easy. Overall, a great stop if you are traveling between Italy and Switzerland and looking for a simple but high-quality local experience.
