I have never experienced such targeted poor treatment at a restaurant. My friend and I arrived on a Saturday at 21:00 without a reservation. We were turned away by a man who was unnecessarily rude, which was fine—we simply made a reservation online for 21:30 and returned. Initially, a lovely woman seated us and offered water, but after she spoke with the man who had previously denied us, her demeanor completely changed. While sitting at the table, I even received an email notification that my reservation had been cancelled, clearly indiciating they intentionally tried to remove our presence from their system while we were physically sitting there. We were then ignored for nearly an hour while the staff was attentive and friendly to every other table. I eventually got to orderat 22:15. When the food finally arrived, the order was wrong, but given the hostile atmosphere, I didn’t feel comfortable sending it back. We are two polite, well-dressed women, and I truly cannot understand why we were singled out for such cold treatment. Whether it was because we were Americans (that speak Italian) or some other reason, the lack of professionalism from the male staff member ruined our evening.
Dear Amanda, We would like to clarify the facts regarding your visit. Upon your arrival, you were clearly informed that no tables would be available for at least 30 minutes. By making an immediate online reservation to force your entry, you put a junior staff member—who was only on her second day—in a very difficult position. She mistakenly seated you, unfortunately taking away a table from other guests who were already waiting their turn. We firmly reject any implication of prejudice. In our restaurant, we do not make distinctions based on nationality, nor do we give priority to guests based on how 'elegant' or 'well-dressed' they are. We treat everyone with the same standard, but we expect our reservation system and our staff to be respected. The delay in your service was a direct consequence of this misunderstanding: we intentionally chose to prioritize and serve first the guests who had been waiting for the table you occupied. Furthermore, that specific table had been requested by those waiting guests, who instead had to settle for a seat in our bar and counter area—a space usually reserved for quick drinks and aperitifs. Despite this, we decided to let it go and allowed you to remain at that table without asking you to move. Of course, we are not above making mistakes: our online booking system should have been deactivated, and perhaps the communication could have been handled differently. I assure you that had you waited the requested 30 minutes (at the very least), we would have done everything possible to prepare a table for you as quickly as we could. In any case, we believe that we learn from every mistake, and we will value this feedback to ensure such situations are avoided in the future.
