Casa Vela | Wine Bar, Bistrot, B&B a Chianalea di Scilla

Looking for a nice place to enjoy an aperitivo on our first evening in Scilla, we ended up at Casa Vela... and things escalated quickly! The original plan was simple: a glass of wine and a few snacks before dinner. Instead, we found ourselves happily working our way through two bottles of excellent Calabrian wine, a generous platter of local cheeses and cured meats, and a delicious fresella topped with tuna and olives. The quality of the products really stood out, and everything felt authentic and genuinely local. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're visiting Chianalea. It may not have the most dramatic sea view in town, but the food and wine more than make up for it. A special mention also goes to the quirky little clothing shop across the street, with its wonderfully eccentric owner, his incredible car, and an adorable little army of kittens that made the evening even more memorable. A great start to our holiday in Scilla!

Excellent food! The lasagna and cuppa di legumes is to die for.

Best chocolate (and red wine) cake that I have ever had!!! This cute little place is run by a nice local lady. All the food is homemade (by another woman) in the house next door. On a 2nd visit we had the lasagna & also the potato, cheese, ham dish. Both were excellent. Tip: Check-out the clothes shop directly opposite (the owner is quite a character)

I went here for lunch. Surrounded by cute cats. Quiet and enjoying sitting in the alley way. Nice food and friendly lady serving us. Wine and snacks a perfect weekend.

The warm plate was actually cold ( potatoes with pancetta and some cheese on top). The only "ok" thing was some tuna bruschette with tuna from a can. I wouldn't recommend it for food.

It’s very pretty and the food is ok but the service quality is very poor; it takes ages to get anything, and there’s no lock on the toilet door AND staff just don’t pay attention so you have to yell at other customers not to come in when you’re in there. I don’t recommend it, there are other better places on the same street.
